TEMPO.CO, Mataram - A number of universities in the People's Republic of China offered 1,000 scholarships for West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) students to obtain a study for a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree.
The offer was conveyed by Chinese Consulate-General Gou Haodong when met NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah and Deputy Governor Sitti Rohmi Djalillah in the governor’s office, on Tuesday, April 16.
Gou Haodong explained that some 300 scholarships would be opened for the first phase of this year for study enrollment in September.
Students accepted in various Chinese universities would undergo a language program for a year. “Language will help them in many things,” Gou said.
The Chinese government would provide free college tuition fee and lodging accommodation and the provincial administration would support the students’ living cost.
Zulkieflimansyah expressed his excitement to receive the offer considering his campaign promise included a scholarship program abroad for a thousand of students.
The governor said that the study abroad program for the young generation was aimed at acquiring knowledge, learning and understanding a foreign culture, as well as social networks in the international community.
He pinned hope the partnership could be further discussed in detail so that the West Nusa Tenggara administration could soon draft concrete schemes for the scholarship program.
